Project Overview
Bringing Safe Travel Planning to Life
National Highways’ #TRIP campaign is all about helping drivers plan ahead—checking vehicles, factoring in rest stops, and making sure they have the right essentials for the road. But let’s be honest—safety messaging can sometimes feel a little dry. So, when National Highways wanted to make their campaign more engaging at events, they turned to us for an interactive solution that would really capture people’s attention.
The Challenge:
How do you turn travel planning into an experience people actually want to take part in? The answer: gamification. We designed a touchscreen challenge that transforms planning your trip principles into a fast-paced, interactive experience that’s fun, educational, and a little bit competitive.
The Solution: The T.R.I.P. Touchscreen Game
The game takes visitors on a two-stage journey, testing their knowledge before putting them in the driver’s seat—literally. Here’s how it works:
Jump In
Players enter their first name to join the leaderboard. A little friendly competition never hurts!
Stage 1 – Quick-Fire Quiz
- Five multiple-choice questions on essential road safety and travel planning.
- Correct answers earn extra seconds for the next round, adding a strategic element.
Stage 2 – The Packing Challenge
- The scene shifts to a summer road trip. A car boot sits open, and a conveyor belt sends items across the screen.
- Players drag and drop essential T.R.I.P. items into the boot while avoiding red herrings (because, no, a beach ball isn’t mission-critical!).
- Each correct item locks in place with a satisfying ‘tick’ and sound effect. Incorrect ones bounce back with a playful ‘oops.’
- Halfway through, the scene shifts to winter mode, where players must adapt and pack accordingly.
Final Question & Scoring
- Once time runs out, the boot slams shut with a bold message: ‘YOUR TIME IS UP!’
- Players answer one last question: ‘What else would YOU take on YOUR T.R.I.P.?’ via a drop-down menu.
- Their final score is revealed, based on how well they packed. A QR code links to more campaign info for those wanting to learn more.
Leaderboard & Data Insights
- The top 10 scores are displayed in real time, fuelling a competitive spirit.
- Player data, including scores and final question answers, is logged for insights on public awareness.
- An in-app reset button allows event staff to refresh the leaderboard before each event.

Immersive Audio & Visuals
To make the game even more engaging, National Highways provided:
- Custom graphics and animations to bring the campaign to life.
- The official T.R.I.P. campaign soundtrack as background audio.
- Sound effects to reinforce correct and incorrect choices.
- Voiceover narration in a nostalgic ‘Generation Game’ style for an added layer of fun.
The Impact
The T.R.I.P. touchscreen game proved to be a hit. By turning travel safety into a hands-on challenge, visitors were not just absorbing information—they were actively engaging with it. The leaderboard and seasonal twists kept things fresh, while the blend of competition and education made key safety messages stick.
Final Thoughts
At Naidex 2025 and beyond, National Highways didn’t just tell people how to plan safer journeys—they let them experience it. Through gamification, they turned essential travel advice into an interactive, memorable, and fun experience, ensuring that visitors left entertained and better prepared for their next trip.
