Driving Innovation: Innovate UK KTN’s Impact at London Tech Week

Introduction:

Innovate UK KTN, a leading innovation agency in the UK, sought to enhance the browsing experience for visitors attending London Tech Week. They wanted a user-friendly, touch-controlled application that would allow seamless browsing of multiple websites within a single app. The app had two versions, one for the first day of the show and another for the following two days. The goal was to provide attendees with easy access to relevant information and resources.

In this case, we were given a lead time of just 9 working days to design and develop the app. This short timeframe required the team at Gravit8 to work swiftly and effectively, making efficient use of their resources and expertise. Despite the time constraints, we were able to deliver a tailored and user-friendly application that met the specific requirements of Innovate UK KTN.

Solution for Day 1:

When the app was launched on the first day, a holding video played, accompanied by a call to action prompting users to touch the screen to explore further.

Upon touching the screen, three buttons appeared, custom designed by Gravit8 to align with the client’s brand guidelines.

Button 1 opened two options related to funding:

OPTION 1

Option 1 opened a single page with ten URLs grouped under headings such as Grants, Loans, Investor Partnerships, and Contracts. These URLs provided information about various funding opportunities, including challenge funds, innovation loans, and small business research initiatives.

OPTION 2

Option 2, focused on Business Advisory, opened a page with fifteen URLs categorised under headings like Skills, Growth & Scaling Support, Expert & Tools, Potential Collaborators, and Going Global. These URLs provided guidance and support related to business growth and development.

Button 2 directed users to a website where they could review a report. The website was an existing one provided by Innovate UK. Button 3 allowed users to request more information, which linked to an existing website containing a data form for collecting user information. Both websites opened in pop-ups within the app and required an on-screen keyboard when text fields were focused.

Additionally, the app included basic usage analytics. By locally saving the count of clicks and duration for each subject within the app, Gravit8 provided Innovate UK KTN with valuable insights into visitor behavior and preferences.

Solution for Day 2 & 3:

On the second and third days of the show, the app was tweaked. Similar to the first day, a holding video with a call to action was displayed on launching the app. Upon touching the screen, three buttons appeared, featuring custom designs by Gravit8.

BUTTON 1

Button 1 led users to a hub link, connecting them to a website specifically launched for program finding.

This website provided detailed information about programs and initiatives relevant to Innovate UK KTN.

BUTTON 2

Button 2 directed users to the same report review website used on the first day.

BUTTON 3

Button 3 allowed users to request more information, which linked to the existing website containing the data form for collecting user information. Just like on the first day, all websites opened in pop-ups within the app, and an on-screen keyboard was available for text input.

Conclusion

Gravit8 successfully developed a user-friendly, touch-controlled application for Innovate UK KTN to enhance the browsing experience during London Tech Week. The app allowed attendees to seamlessly explore multiple websites within a single platform. By providing relevant information, funding opportunities, business advisory services, reports, and data collection forms, the app facilitated engagement and interaction.

In addition, bespoke basic usage analytics within the app enabled Innovate UK KTN to measure interest levels through click counts and duration data. With a lead time of just 9 working days, Gravit8 delivered a comprehensive app that met the client’s requirements and contributed to a successful event.
